Next week, we see the return of award winning novelist of Ilustrado and Free Lance Journalist, Miguel Syjuco. Here is his schedule for the week:

Monday March 20th in the Little Theater 3:00-4:30 on Journalism
-Open to all HS students and ISM parents
-Miguel will read his most recent Opinion Editorial in the New York Times
-Q&A on various topics: his journalism, the changing face of journalism in the   Philippines and the world, advice and guidance to aspiring journalists and students who run or contribute to ISM publications.

Friday March 24th in classroom 2046 3:00-4:30 on Creative Writing
-Open to all HS students
-Informal Q&A about the processes of his fiction writing and those of others, advice to students running or contributing to Liham or other literary publications, the problems, challenges and rewards of pursuing a life in writing.

Throughout the week, Miguel will also work with ISM students across grade 9-12 English classes in support of creative writing, journalism, students studying his novel Ilustrado, and High School English incorporating more Filipino voices into the curriculum and making more connections with our home and or host culture here in the Philippines.

After today, many of the seniors will have made it halfway through their “mock” exams. Next week, the mocks will continue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then they should be able to breathe a sigh of relief as, for the vast majority of seniors, this will be one of the last large internal assessments that they’ll have to do at ISM. Some of them will still have to work on their final pieces for the Fine and Performing Arts (Film, Theater and Visual Arts) so we wish all the seniors our best as they embark on the final stages of their high school journey.

There sure is a lot going on again! Wishing you a restful and relaxing weekend.
