MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
The repertoire was as diverse as the ages of the singers this year, with singers from 8 years to nearly 60 years on the stage. For the opening piece, “SiSi Ni Moja” and the closing number, excerpts from “Mamma Mia” we had close to 200 performers on the stage. Well done to those parents that came – you guys really seemed to be enjoying yourselves, especially at the end when there was literally dancing in the aisles. Really great! I’m not sure about Dancing Queen; there was one person on stage that seemed to have been more of a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Easy Rider!
Don’t forget that our concert season continues next week with the All Bands Concert on Monday, November 19th and then the All Strings Concert on Wednesday, November 21st. Both at 5:30 pm in the FAT.
This year’s Academic Bowl was held at Faith Academy on Wednesday and we certainly bounced back from last year’s last question defeat by absolutely smashing the opposition!! The Bearcats came in at the end with 1515 points while Brent came in second with 771! Well done to Mr. Winters and the 2018 Academic Bowl team of David Zhang, Yanpeng Yuan, Kirtana Devaraj, Martin Jee, Jason Cruz, Kenneth Browder, Razel Suansing, Zeki Tan, Eion Chua, Christian Lising, Suman Padhi and Ian Curry. Same again next year!
Yesterday morning saw the opening of this year’s IASAS MUN here at ISM. It ran throughout yesterday and today culminating tomorrow afternoon. We are excited to host not only the IASAS member schools, but also another 12 schools from around the region with a total of 197 delegates and 18 schools attending in total. MUN conferences are a great opportunity for all delegates to engage in lively debate, to develop presentation skills and, of course, to make new friends from around the region. Thanks to our Director of Fine and Performing Arts, Ms. Marsha Hillman together with her team, Malou Talens, Mike Relf, Colin Aitken, Attilio Polo and the IT tech crew without whom this conference would not be possible. Finally, to our ISM student team, led by Elisabeth Cajurao, for the planning and effort they have put in to the organization and staging of this conference.
Next week is THIMUN Singapore – This 2nd MUN trip allows a different group of MUNers to also engage in discussion surrounding real and contemporary world issues.

We have a special event this year, and it is especially relevant for the High School. The PCA has been working with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and has planned a really nice, festive event that gives us a chance to see the MSO in action, and also promotes our students’ musical development. On November 24, Saturday, from 6-8 pm, the MSO will perform a special concert right here in our own Fine Arts Theater. They will do classical and holiday pieces. A perfect lead up to the end of the year holiday break. But, even better, our students are going to perform with the MSO. The overall program is 15 pieces, and the students will perform side by side for about 7 of the program’s numbers. We will have our 16 students in the Show Choir participating, our 34 student members of the Symphonic Band, and our 25 student members of the ISM Orchestra. The chance to play side-by-side with professional musicians, and to our parent audience, is just a great opportunity for our high school students. So, please come and support this event – it will be great music and great fun.
On January 16th 2019 we will be holding the 2nd annual Manila Student Film Festival here at ISM. There are categories for all our ISM students and also for college students so the evening is a fun mixture of films.
Age 8 – 11 (Junior/Elementary) – *Max length – 3-minute film
Age 12- 14 (Middle/High school) – *Max length – 5-minute film
Age 15 – 18 (Senior/High School) – *Max length – 5-minute film
Age 19 – 21 (Further/Higher) – *Max length – 7-minute film

Last year we had over 70 entries and two films from ISM were awarded prizes by the independent judges. This year we are hoping for even more entries and particularly encourage ES children to submit some films.
The deadline for film submission is December 2nd.
And with that I wish you all a happy and healthy weekend.
